Yesterday we had the most snow in the south of England that there has been for eighteen years. Which means that my kids had the first school-free snow day in their lives.
The tone of the day was set when Alex (son no.2) built an anatomically correct snowman on our front lawn, proudly displaying his snowy assets to all passers-by. No photo of that, unfortunately, as Steve, returning home from Heathrow airport after an abortive attempt to travel to Chicago, asked Alex to decent up the snowman.
So, at least the snow lady in the picture above is exhibiting a modicum of modesty…

wow – it looks so pretty, so white, so canadian! I lived in London for a winter 22 years ago and it was like this too. It was hard to concentrate on work when there was snow to watch falling.
I thought of you when I saw all that snow on the news. Enjoy it!
Looks like a super fun day! Hope there was hot chocolate too.
We watched on the news last night about all the snow in England. How fun for all of you! Looks like the kids are having a blast :).
Hahaha! Mine are still at the age to be grossed out by that kind of stuff they did sledging and snowballs great fun. Another day off today!
How cool! I love a good snow day!
I love how London is littered with snowpeople today!
Love the photo, although I’d have dearly loved a glimpse of the chubby snowman. (Here’s hoping the pun translates from American slang into British, for those of us with dirty minds.)
Is your son a fan of Calvin and Hobbes, by any chance?
We’re used to the tons of snow and sub-zero temps here (Iowa), but early in the season I still take pleasure in the sight of huge drifts of snow, or ice frosting all the trees. By the time February rolls around, I’m starved for the sight of green grass and the sound of birds singing while I sit out on the back steps with a mug of coffee or tea in the morning. (Then July arrives and I hibernate inside with the air conditioning as temps soar above 100 degrees F, and I wish I could look outside and see snowmen again, even x-rated ones.)
Very happy to have discovered your blog! This post made me smile, and I think it even made my tea taste better. How’d you do that?
Not enough snow here for such frolics!
Too funny! Enjoy the snow; it’s really fun when you don’t get it often. I loved ours in December.
That is too funny! We used to get quite a bit of heavy snow in the North of England when I was young, but err, yeah, we’re talking about 30 years ago – so it has been a while! Hope you continue to enjoy it!
Ok, I have to ask. Who donated the pink bra? š
Tell Steve he’s a spoilsport btw! š
I just checked with Alex and apparently it belongs to the second girl from the right… I can’t believe it didn’t occur to me to ask!
I’m still not quite over how wonderful it was yesterday – such unprompted joyousness everywhere. And I hear t(actually I saw the evidence too) that there were some very interesting anatomically correct snow sculptures in our local park.
he he. Even just knowing there wsa an anatomically correct snowman is enough to make me chuckle, even if we didn’t get to see it.
LOL!
I can’t believe they got off school – how much fun. how much snow do you have? i only had off because of snow once in my life- we were up at our chalet in the alps and got liturally snowed in … we had to clime out of the window – which was the best part of it all. we couldnt go down to the valley because it was to danger due to avalanges- so had to stay up there for another three days-ah what sweet memory š
i haven’t seen any snow – rarley any winter since i go to europe during our winter- since I live over here, and reading about snow makes me feel nostalgic.. sorry for my babbling
Heh heh heh! Sounds like a lot of fun
Hope you enjoyed your snow day!
That is hilarious!
That is too funny! We’ve had 21 “snow events” according to the radio, but none of them has been very deep. Yesterday it was only about 3 inches. I think I’d enjoy the snow a lot more if it only happened every eighteen years.
How awesome!!! I wondered how you all had fared in the snow!!
Enjoy the snow! I hope you’re staying warm!
Good times for a snow day – love the pink bra!
Have you ever seen the snowmen that Calvin (from Calvin & Hobbes) makes? They’re not anatomically correct like those ones… but they’re quite expressive! Hilarious photo.
